On the floor
Tango is a partnered, walking dance. Dancers move counterclockwise around the room in lanes.

Have you danced tango elsewhere?
Our weekly practicas are frequently attended by folks who are new to tango, and we want the room to feel as welcoming as possible. So we relax some of the more formal parts of tango culture, like cabeceo and strict tandas. It’s not that we don’t value these, we love them dearly! But for a lot of people, we’re the first steps on their tango journey, and we want those steps to be easy to take.

FAQ
Do I need a partner?
No. Come on your own or with friends. We rotate partners during the lesson, but there’s no obligation to rotate if you want to stick with the same person.
What is Argentine tango? Is it like ballroom?
Argentine tango is a walking, improvised social dance from Argentina and Uruguay. There’s no set routine. Partners follow the music and each other, and everyone travels counterclockwise around the room. Ballroom tango is a different dance with different technique.
Milonga vs. practica: what's the difference?
Our Wednesday practicas are relaxed practice nights, while GRT milongas are separate, more formal social dances that follow the traditional codigos.
What should I wear?
Slidey shoes. Your knees will thank you. Smooth leather or suede soles are great, and you don’t need real dance shoes to start. Wear clothes you can move in.
What does it cost, and what should I bring?
It’s $5 a night. We take cash, Venmo, or card, and you can pre-register on DanceSeekers. Bring your shoes and a water bottle.
Who comes to GRT?
All kinds of people and all ages, from first-timers to folks who’ve danced for years. The lesson at 8 is made for people who have never danced.
